The Alexander & Buono Competitions

The ABC Business Model

Since its founding by Barry Alexander and Cosmo Buono four years ago, The Alexander & Buono Competitions (ABC) have been responsible for helping to launch the careers of more than one hundred and fifty classical music artists throughout the world. Comprised of the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition, the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, the Alexander and Buono International String Competition, and the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, ABC is designed to help its winners begin and sustain professional careers by fulfilling a commitment to provide the artists with opportunities to perform wherever possible, while offering ongoing career guidance.

The Alexander & Buono Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation, is the non-profit side of the organization, providing scholarships and study grants to competition winners, some of whom are selected to perform at The Annual ABC Gala, a fundraiser that includes a concert at Carnegie Hall. For-profit initiatives operate under the parent company, Alexander & Buono International, and include the Competitions and The Alexander & Buono Festival of Music (alexanderandbuonofestival.com), held each July in New York City. The Festival functions as a laboratory for artists from around the world to hone repertoire and enhance technique through daily master classes and extensive performance opportunities, with multiple recitals held each evening during the seven-day period. The Festival also includes daily seminars called "The Business of Music," designed to help participating musicians understand as much as possible about practical elements associated with having a successful career. ABI also includes a management agency, Alexander & Buono Artists, devoted exclusively to the worldwide representation of selected ABC winners.
